About Base
Base Media is the leading visual effects and animation studio in Asia. We have offices in Mainland China (Beijing, Xiamen, and Wuxi), Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and Los Angeles.
Wish Dragon, our first full length animation feature, produced in collaboration with Sony and Tencent, is scheduled for release in early 2021. We have started pre-production work on our next animation feature, Lord of the West, and the sequel to Wish Dragon.
Our long-standing relationship with Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) has supported our participation in more than fifty Hollywood theatrical film credits, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Pacific Rim, Star Trek into Darkness, Looper, Identity Thief, Mission Impossible 4, and Super 8.
In China, we have worked with talented directors, including Zhang Yimou (Flowers of War), Frant Gwo (The Wandering Earth), Chen Kaige (Sacrifice), Jia Zhangke (A Touch of Sin), Lu Chuan (The Last Supper), Xue Xiaolu (Finding Mr. Right), and Ning Hao (Breakup Buddies).
For television, we provided visual effects services for the award-winning Star Wars spin-off, The Mandalorian. We have received Emmys for our work on The Pacific, Boardwalk Empire, and Black Sails.
With support from the Malaysia Government, we have been able to build a studio supporting Hollywood productions in Kuala Lumpur. The government has introduced the “Film In Malaysia Incentive” (FIMI), a 30% cash rebate on all qualifying Malaysian Production Expenditure (QMPE) to provide an additional financial incentive for creative content development specifically for film, television and other screen production. FIMI applications are processed through the Film In Malaysia Office (FIMO), a division of National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS).
