As one of the top 3 giants in making visual effects in China, Base FX is a visual effects and animation production studio located in Los Angeles with production offices in Beijing and Wuxi. The company was founded in 2006.
The company has worked with some of the top directors in China, including Zhang Yimou (Flowers of War), Chen Kaige (Sacrifice), Jia Zhangke (Journey of Hope), Lu Chuan (The Last Supper), Xue Xiaolu (Finding Mr. Right), and Jin Yimeng (Fuck, I'm Pregnant).
As of June this year, the company has completed over 120 films with output value of 120 million yuan. With an investment of US $17 million, the company will establish a production base – called Base (Xiamen) Culture Development Co., Ltd - in Xiamen’s Guanyinshan Commercial Area, aiming to make Xiamen a high-end visual effects base in China.
The company will start decoration for its base in Xiamen early September and begin to make visual effects for Hollywood films.
The Base (Xiamen) Culture Development Co., Ltd will form a team of about 30 to 50 members from the company’s Beijing office and is expected to have 200 employees within two years. The company’s Xiamen base is expected to generate an annual output value of 100 million yuan within three years time.
In 2010, Base won an Emmy for Outstanding Special Visual Effects on HBO's The Pacific. The following year Base won its second Emmy for its work on Martin Scorsese's Boardwalk Empire and a third Emmy for its work on Black Sails.
In 2012, Base signed a Strategic Alliance Agreement with Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), bringing a new level of excellence to its creative pipeline.
